Maya Show
Over a span of more than 30 years as a potter my work has changed and evolved through many styles. I have been inspired by the ancient Mayan Indian civilization and their hieroglyphics, the skill and beauty of Chinese brush painting, the serenity of Japanese landscaping and the abundance of my own flower and vegetable gardens. Underlying all these influences is my deep love for the natural world.

The clays I use are both porcelain and stoneware. Some of my work is wheel-thrown and some is slab-built. Years of experimentation have yielded many hues of color in my glazes which I layer, glaze on glaze, to create my painted porcelain platters, bowls and vases. For the vegetable sculptures I produce my own molds. For my leaf plates, I use real leaves which I imprint on a moist clay slab.
Being practical in nature, I like to create beauty while maintaining function. Most of my pottery is therefore functional. It is food-safe and can be used in the dishwasher and microwave oven. It is meant to be enjoyed everyday, whether it is on the table, on a shelf or on the wall.
